The Learning Factory at Penn State is an innovative and dynamic space designed to facilitate experiential learning for students, faculty, and staff. Located within the Engineering Design and Innovation building, this facility serves as a hub for hands-on educational activities across a wide range of disciplines and skill sets.
In addition to classroom projects, faculty and staff are welcome to use the Learning Factory for research and personal projects.
Key features and aspects of The Learning Factory include:
- Experiential Learning: The Learning Factory is centered around the concept of learning by doing. It provides a safe and controlled environment where individuals can actively engage with equipment, tools, and technologies related to various crafts and manufacturing processes.
- Equipment and Tools: The facility is equipped with a diverse range of tools and equipment that enable participants to explore different fabrication techniques. This includes traditional machinery like metal and wood shops, as well as cutting-edge technology like CNC (Computer Numerical Control) embroidery machines and additive manufacturing (3D printing) devices.
- Training and Support: The Learning Factory offers training programs and guidance to ensure that visitors can effectively and safely use the equipment. Knowledgeable staff and instructors are available to provide assistance, answer questions, and offer guidance throughout the learning process.
Whether you are a Penn State student, faculty member, or staff we invite you to come and learn about us! The first step is our basic safety training, which is required use of any space.
