The Learning Factory is a state-of-the-art facility located in Engineering Design and Innovation Building on West Campus. Opening in August of 2023, the facility will see continuous usage throughout the year by more than 2,000 students who take courses ranging from the Cornerstone Introduction to Engineering Design (first-year students) to Capstone Design (fourth-year students) and everything in between.
We have the tools and training to help you explore all sorts of making adventures!
Using the Learning Factory
To use the Learning Factory you must be a current Penn State student. You are free to work on your Cornerstone or Capstone projects, other class projects, or anything that suits your fancy. You can’t make weapons or do other dumb stuff. In periods of high demand, priority is given to students working on coursework specifically supported by the Learning Factory.
We have a variety of facilities, including a 24-hour access maker space on the 4th floor. Access to ANY facility requires completion of the basic training program and compliance with safety regulations. Many spaces (e.g., wood shop, metal shop, etc.) have additional training requirements.
