Welcome, students! Make yourselves at home.
The Learning Factory is a state-of-the-art facility located in Engineering Design and Innovation Building on West Campus. This facility sees continuous usage throughout the year by more than 2,000 students, serving students from their Cornerstone class (first-year) to their Capstone project (fourth-year)
We have the tools and training to help you explore all sorts of making adventures!
Using the Learning Factory
To use the Learning Factory you must be a current Penn State student. You are free to work on anything you want (class-related or personal), as long as whatever you are making follows Learning Factory guidelines (no weapons or weapon looking objects, no high-risk parts, etc.). In periods of high demand, priority of tools and resources is given to students working on coursework supported by the Learning Factory (Capstone and Cornerstone).
We have a variety of facilities, including a 24-hour access maker space on the 4th floor. Access to ANY facility requires completion of the basic training program and compliance with safety regulations. Many spaces (e.g., wood shop, metal shop, etc.) have additional training requirements.
